Tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure in which both palatine tonsils are fully removed from the back of the throat
tonsillectomy

The procedure is mainly performed for recurrent tonsillitis, throat infections and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Tonsillectomy can be performed by different methods like dissection and snare method, electrocautery, radiofrequency ablation, coblation, tonsillectomy, harmonic scalpel or LASER tonsillectomy.

While generally safe, complications may include.

  • bleeding
  • vomiting
  • dehydration
  • trouble eating
  • trouble talking

Post-surgery a sore throat will persist approximately two weeks following surgery. Recovery can take from 7 to 10 days and proper hydration is very important during this time.
